Program Overview

This course is for students who want to explore making construction their career. We cover advanced skills in framing and finish carpentry. We put our skills to the test.

What you'll Learn

This is a hands-on, working class; daily attendance is required. You will learn to apply your math, science, reading, writing, and study skills to work in the Construction Industry. We will also learn how to use tools including power tools and common construction materials. We will work side by side with actual construction professionals.

Additional Details:

High School Credit: CTE credit or elective credit: Up to 1 credit

Concurrent Enrollment: 4 college credits. Student is responsible to register and pay for concurrent enrollment classes at SLCC. For more information on these classes, see Appendix.

Industry Certifications: N/A

Skills Certifications: Utah State Skills Certificate Tests

Recommended: Woodworking; Drawing and design skills.

Required: Daily Attendance. Physical ability to be able to lift at least 30 lbs. Ability to understand and follow safety procedures. Be able to use power and pneumatic tools safely. 

Additional Opportunities: Students are required participate in SkillsUSA.

CMGT 1330 Interiors Finishes / Residential Construction 2:

Students will expand on their experience in Residential Construction 1. They will learn advanced framing skills including roofs and stairs. They will also learn finish carpentry including doors, windows, trim, cabinets, etc. The class is for students who might like to make construction their career.
