Introduction

Program Overview

Introduction: This course covers IMMR ( Inspection Maintenance / Minor Repair ) ASE steering and suspension, brakes, engine, and electrical at a student level.

What you'll Learn

Students will learn to use power tools and hand tools safely. Students will learn about brakes and air brake systems, welding and gas torch use, suspensions on trailers, truck and wheel alignments, clutch repair, and truck preventive maintenance. Reading and understanding shop manuals will also be covered. Students will have job shadows, internships, and career opportunities. We will be members of Skills USA, where we will learn leadership skills, ethics, resume building, mock interviews, mentorship, communication skills, and regional competitions

Additional Details:

High School Credit: CTE credit or elective credit: Up to 2 credits. 

Concurrent Enrollment: 4 college credits available. Student is responsible for registering and paying for concurrent enrollment classes at SLCC. 

Industry Certifications and Skills Certifications: ASE Steering/Suspension, Brake, Electrical, and engine, and Professionalism.

Recommended: Automotive classes, mechanical experience, and the desire to pursue a career in the diesel industry.

Required: Students must complete the Introduction course and be invited to attend the Advanced course by the teacher. Safety-toed boots, work pants, and shirts (clothes that will get dirty, overalls)

Additional Opportunities: Students can participate in SkillsUSA, Job Shadows, scholarships, internships, Parent Night, Diesel Day, Guest Speakers from the industry, and post-secondary.

Course Descriptions

DST 1045 ASE Diesel IMMR:

This course is the first in a group that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to the specialized maintenance and repair of trucks, buses, and other commercial and industrial vehicles. Instruction covers training in the following areas of inspection, maintenance, and minor repair: safety, diesel engine mechanics, drive trains, and electrical/electronic systems. Work ethics and productivity are an integral part of the classroom and lab activities of these courses.
