Additional Details:

High School Credit: CTE credit or elective credit: up to 4 credits

Concurrent Enrollment: 12 College Credits. Students are responsible to register and pay for concurrent enrollment classes at UVU. For more information on these classes, see Appendix.

Industry Certifications: Certiport IT Professional (Device Configuration & Management, Linux, Networking, Network Security), CompTIA Competency Certificates (Hardware, Software), CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+

Skills Certifications: Utah State Skills Certificate Test(s)

Recommended: Keyboarding and Foundations of Technology, strong technical aptitude and interest in computer science; advanced math helpful.

Additional Opportunities: Students can participate in TSA. Industry engagement via guest speakers and teachers, field trips; internship opportunities.

Course Descriptions

Computer Systems 1:

Master the essentials of hardware maintenance. You will gain the core competencies required of an entry-level IT professional, including building, upgrading, repairing, and troubleshooting personal computer systems to ensure peak performance.

IT 1600 Computer Systems 2:

Building on your hardware foundation, this course dives into the software that powers modern computing. You will learn to install and manage common operating systems, master software troubleshooting techniques, and implement industry-standard operational procedures.

IT 1510 Linux Fundamentals:

Unlock the power of the open-source world. By navigating the Linux file system, mastering command-line tools, and managing software packages, you will develop the technical agility highly sought after in both IT and advanced cybersecurity careers.

IT 2600 Network Fundamentals:

Discover the architecture that keeps the world connected. You will gain the skills to design, configure, and maintain secure network environments, learning to troubleshoot devices and leverage essential technologies that form the backbone of modern IT.

CYBR 1700 Principles of Cyber Defense and Ethics:

Explore the critical landscape of information security. You will learn to identify common cyber threats and understand the techniques attackers use to compromise systems, equipping you with the knowledge to build resilient, secure defenses.

Cyber Forensics:

Step into the role of a digital investigator. This course covers the systematic approach to computer forensics, teaching you how to analyze security breaches, utilize specialized investigative tools, and document evidence in the face of cyber incidents.
