Welding- Advanced

Program Overview

For students ready to take their skills to the next level the advanced welding class adds two more welding processes, 3D and 2D design for automated cutting, and two more metals to become proficient in. With an emphasis on becoming an in demand skilled trade person this project based class will prepare you to push metal to its limits.

What you'll Learn

This Advanced Welding course is designed for students ready to demonstrate a high level of proficiency in key welding processes—GMAW, SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW—and advanced cutting techniques, including oxy-fuel, plasma, cnc, and mechanical methods. Students will undertake complex tasks such as designing and fabricating projects, interpreting detailed blueprints, and operating CNC cutting equipment. In addition to technical expertise, this course requires students to consistently exhibit critical employability skills: strict punctuality, reliable attendance, effective teamwork, and unwavering commitment to safety protocols. Only students who successfully complete the Entry-Level Welding course, meeting all attendance, punctuality, and performance benchmarks, may enroll in this rigorous course.

Additional Details:

High School Credit: CTE credit or elective credit: Up to 2 credits

Concurrent Enrollment: 4 college credits. Student is responsible to register and pay for concurrent enrollment classes at Weber State. For more information on these classes, see Appendix. 

Industry Certifications: Utah Intermediate & Advanced Level Welder State Skill Test. AWS SENSE Entry level Welder Certifications.

Skills Certifications: Utah State Skills Certificate Tests

Recommended: Any student who enjoys working and learning in a hands-on environment. No prior welding experience required.

Required: Students must complete Welding Introduction and be invited to participate in this Advanced course.

Additional Opportunities: Students can participate in SkillsUSA.
