Program Overview

This program introduces students to the field of forensic science, applying principles of science and criminal justice to investigate, document, and analyze crime scene scenarios. Students engage in hands-on, inquiry-based learning that develops analytical thinking, problem-solving, and real-world application of scientific, legal, and medical concepts.

What you'll Learn

Students will develop the skills to identify, document, collect, and analyze evidence using the scientific method and deductive reasoning. Throughout the course, they will explore a wide range of forensic discipline:, including blood spatter analysis, fingerprinting, ballistics, DNA analysis, death investigations, forensic psychology, crime scene documentation methods, and microscopic and chemical testing. In addition, Medical Forensics integrates health science concepts such as anatomy, physiology, microscopy, lab safety, and applied math skills. Through hands-on labs and real-world scenarios, students will gain practical experience in evidence collection and analysis while exploring careers in both forensic science, law enforcement, and health science fields.

Additional Details:

High School Credit: CTE credit or elective credit: up to 2 credits. **Science credit can be rewarded upon request.

Concurrent Enrollment: 3 college credits through UVU. Student is responsible to register and pay for concurrent enrollment classes at UVU. 

Industry Certifications: Students will have the opportunity for Dispatch training and certification. 

Skills Certifications: Utah State Skills Certificate Tests

Recommended: Introduction to Criminal Justice

CJ 1350/Medical Forensics- Intro to Forensic Science:

This semester course is designed to introduce the field of forensic science. The focus is on introductory skills necessary to prepare students for careers such as crime scene technician, criminalist or forensic scientist.

Health Science Capstone:

This is a semester course designed to prepare students for a health science career. Students will participate in work-based learning experiences designed to introduce and research different health science careers.
