Program Overview

Discover what it takes to build an AI system by analyzing, processing, and using data to train AI models to predict outcomes and understand how AI learns, as well as how the explosion of AI technology is shaping society. Build AR/VR games with Unreal Engine. Best of all, learn 3 programming languages to develop cutting-edge, real-world applications and be ready for a career in Computer Science and AI!

What you'll Learn

In the first semester, we start with learning Python (CS 1400), the beginner-friendly, most popular programming language to build AI applications, moving on to Java (CS 1410) as you become more proficient in programming. At the same time, understand how AI works and how it will augment your productivity at school and work without AI tools doing the thinking for you. In the AI Applications class, choose three different tracks according to your interests and aptitude: Programming, Business, or Creative. Each track is customized to maximize your learning experience in your chosen concentration. End the AI applications class with a capstone project where you will build a real-world, beneficial AI tool. The second semester will hone your skills further as you learn how to obtain, process, and analyze data, a vital prerequisite for using data in AI to make better, more accurate AI predictions in the Data Analytics course, using popular business tools such as Tableau along with Python. Push your programming skills into the next level, in the meantime, with Data Structures and Algorithms (CS 2420), where you will learn C++ and start to explore programming as a tool for Computer Science instead of viewing programming as Computer Science, a common misconception many people have about the field.

Additional Details:

High School Credit: CTE credit or elective credit: Up to 4 credits total. One credit may be substituted to a science credit upon request.

Concurrent Enrollment: 12 college credits required. Student is responsible to register and pay for concurrent enrollment classes at Utah Valley University. For more information on these classes, see Appendix.

Skills Certifications: Utah State Skills Certificate Tests

Recommended: Keyboarding and basic computer skills.

Required: Secondary Math II completed. All 2nd semester classes require passing the 1st semester (College requirement).

Course Descriptions

INFO 2500 / Artificial Intelligence:

Learn and apply prompt engineering to improve the accuracy and relevance of AI output. Then, build AI-based tools and applications, such as chatbots, AI tutors, and media analyzers. Discover how AI is used in the industry and how it can be used to accelerate your future career.

INFO 2500 / Artificial Intelligence:

CS 1410 / Computer Programming Advanced:

Students will create more complex GUI applications including a game using Java. Build more complex applications that involve data structures and prepare for the AP Computer Science A Exam.

Data Analytics:

Students will explore the lifecycle of data, from collection and cleaning to analysis and visualization. Through a blend of theoretical concepts and practical applications, learners will gain proficiency in using various tools and techniques to interpret complex datasets.

AR/VR:

Use Unreal Engine and build games and simulations in AR and VR. Understand how locomotion and other XR-specific design considerations affect the virtual experience. Use Blueprint scripting language or C++ to build various functionalities that make up a game or simulation.

CS 2420 / Algorithms and Data Structures:

This course presents the ideas, tools, structure, syntax, libraries, and object-oriented design techniques for developing well-formed programs using data structures. Student’s study and strengthen their concepts such as problem solving, program structures, classes, methods, data types, control constructs, file and console I/O. Students will also learn other important principles in designing object-oriented programs containing data structures.
